Brittany LaMar and Cheri DeJesus

Teammates turned rivals were recognized by the California Pacific Conference on Wednesday.

East Union alumni Brittany LaMar and Cheri DeJesus were named to the all-Cal Pac team, and both earned top honors. LaMar, a sophomore catcher at Rocklin’s William Jessup University, was voted Player of the Year, while Simpson University (Redding) junior DeJesus is Newcomer of the Year.

LaMar was the conference leader with a .518 batting average and 43 RBIs. He also hammered 71 hits, 11 homers, 12 doubles and posted a .753 slugging percentage. She was one of six all-conference selections for the regular-season co-champion Warriors (10-6 Cal Pac, 30-18 overall).

DeJesus helped the Red Hawks (10-6, 35-26) claim the other half of the Cal Pac crown. The junior infielder made a good first impression after transferring from Central Arizona College. Simpson is currently competing in the National Christian College Athletic Association Championship after coming from behind to beat California Baptist University 3-2 in the West Region title game on May 2.

LaMar and DeJesus were teammates at East Union in 2009 and 2010 after DeJesus transferred from West of Tracy.
