Giants rout Red Sox in Ripon LL minor playoff opener

The Giants erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning Tuesday to end their game with the Red Sox via the mercy rule by the score of 14-4 in opening-round action of the Ripon Little League minor tournament at the Ripon Community Center.

Kayden Hitt (two RBI, run), Jesse Hernandez (RBI, run), Bryan Cutter (RBI) and Benji Sybesma (double, run) were all 2 for 3 for the Giants and made up the bulk of the 13-hit Giants parade. Henry Cook (RBI) and Calvin Vander Plaats each added two runs.

Cook started and pitched into the fourth for the Giants and tallied nine strikeouts, striking out the side in the first and second innings.

Shane Vander Veen (two RBI) and Holden Beelman (RBI) were both 2 for 3 for the Red Sox.

Conner Paris struck out the Giants in order in the second inning and struck out the side in the third.

The Giants play the Reds this afternoon at 5:30 in a second-round contest and Thursday the Red Sox face either the A’s or the Dodgers at 5:30 p.m.
