Over 300 martial arts enthusiasts are expected to converge at Manteca High’s Winter Gymnasium on Saturday.
That’s when the Golden State Karate Fall Classic will take place. For competitors, the annual event – for the first time ever – will be worth double points.
According to Tae Kwon Do Master Robin Taberna, who’s also in charge of the program at the Boys and Girls Club of Manteca, they’re coming from all areas of Northern California, including the Bay Area, Merced and Los Banos.
“We have (competitors) as young as 5 and as old as 75,” he said on Thursday.
The tournament kicks off at 10 a.m., with trophies going to first-, second-, and third- place finishers. Those taking fourth will get medals.
Taberna added that about 30 of his students from Manteca will take part in the GSKA tournament.
Registration will be held on the day of the tourney. The first event is free but the second event will cost $20 and each additional is $10.
Proceeds from the concession stand will support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Manteca/Lathrop.
MHS is located at 450 E. Yosemite Ave.
