East Union High graduate and Cal State Stanislaus senior Christin Gowan was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s women’s basketball Player of the Week Monday.

It is the first Player of the Week honor for Gowan in her career, and the first awarded to a Warrior player this season.

Gowan was instrumental in the Warriors winning two road games in Southern California last week, as they improved to 4-2 in conference play and 6-4 overall.

In a 79-53 victory at Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday, the 5-foot-7 senior guard poured in 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in 30 minutes while converting all nine of her free-throw attempts.
Then on Friday, she scored 17 points again while dishing out five assists and tallying five steals in a 75-59 blowout of Cal State Los Angeles.

Gowan averaged 17 points, four rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.5 steals for the week, but even more impressive she buried 94.4 percent of her free throws (17-for-18). She is third on the team with 12.4 points per game on the season, and her 3.5 assists and free-throw percentage (86 percent, 37-for-43) lead the Warriors.

Cal State Stanislaus host winless Cal State East Bay Friday and UC San Diego Saturday in Turlock.
