SALIDA — Lathrop’s Izaiah Gonzalez took the mound in the bottom of the fifth inning Sunday trailing by one run with a runner on and no out.

After inducing a fielder’s choice, Gonzalez retired the next five batters — striking out the side in the sixth — to pick up the 15-12 come-from-behind win over Manteca in opening-round action of the District 67 Minor League All-Star Tournament at Salida Park.

Manteca led 9-4 going into the fourth inning when Lathrop put up seven runs. Gilbert Arreoloa (2 for 3, RBI, run), Elijah Ageno (2 for 2, triple, two runs, RBI), Maddox Schmidt (three runs, RBI, three runs) and Trenton Fitzhugh (2 for 4, two RBI, two runs) each posted an RBI single in the inning for Lathrop. Gonzalez knocked in a run on a pop fly and Valencia Porras drew a bases-loaded walk.

Fitzhugh singled in Dominic Ramos to give Lathrop the lead for good in a four-run sixth at 13-12. All the other runs in the frame were on a wild pitch, a passed ball and an error.

Manteca put up five runs in the first and four runs in the third. Blake Bisordi (2 for 3, three RBI) ripped a three-RBI single in the Manteca first and in the fourth Reed Strmiska tallied a two-RBI single. Jackson Hendryk (RBI, run) added an RBI on a groundout in the fourth.

Cash Junqueiro went 2 for 2 with a run for Manteca. Logan Reynolds added two RBI and two runs and Logan Stirrat posted an RBI.

Lathrop faces Salida in a quarterfinal contest on Friday, and Manteca squares off in an elimination game against Ripon today. Both games start at 5:15 p.m.
