It didn’t take long for the Lathrop Jr. Spartans to get things going in their 28-0 win over the South Stockton Vikings on Saturday.

With Tyreke James setting the tone on three separate runs of 50 yards or more, everything else to fell into place against an opponent that they had already seen once this season. James found the end zone twice and finished with 162 yards on only four carries. Vince Spruell finished with 72 yards on only one carry with a touchdown as well.

And defensively Lathrop laid everything they had on the Vikings for the second time.

Michael Ramos finished with five tackles and an interception, while Spruell had seven tackles and a pair of sacks. Daniel Lesley also had an interception.

As a unit, Lathrop’s defense held the Vikings to only one first down in the two contests and shut them out both times. Offensively, they scored 76.

“We had a good all around effort today,” offensive coordinator Anthony Hernandez said. “We followed our game plan to perfection. The Vikings are a solid team with good players and coaches. We faced them twice this season and gave up no touchdowns which is a good barometer of our team as a whole.

“Next week will be another tough test with us traveling to Lincoln to face the Trojans which will set up seeding for the playoffs.”
