Kootstra pitches shutout as Ripon advances to TOC final

 With Logan Kootstra shutting down the Salida White Sox from the mound Friday, the Ripon Royals put up a pair of five-run innings on the way to an 11-0 four-inning mercy win over Salida in the consolation final of the District 67 Tournament of Champions at Lincoln Park.

Kootstra went the distance, no hitting the White Sox and retiring Salida in order in two innings, striking out five and walking four.

Bo Brayton led the attack for Ripon, going 2 for 2 with a two-RBI double and three runs. Gavin Cloward (run) belted a two-RBI single to end the Royals fourth inning with the five-runs-per-inning maximum. Drew Mouw, who ended the Ripon third by scoring the fifth run of the frame after coming home on an overthrow to third, Kootstra (double) and Luas Durao and each added an RBI and a run. Jake Brown, Jax Vargason, Camden Carrick and Austyn Cutter all scored a run apiece and Carlos Blanco was 2 for 2.

The Royals face the Northgate Mets this morning at 10 in the championship round. Northgate dispatched Ripon to the consolation bracket Thursday night and can wrap up the championship with a win this morning. A Ripon win will for a winner-take-all game Sunday at 10 a.m.
