Lancer Wrestling Club racks up medals in SJWA tournament

The Lancer Youth Wrestling Club continued to enjoy a great deal of success, getting several standout performances in a San Joaquin Wrestling Association freestyle/Greco tournament hosted by Buhach Colony in Atwater.

Tyler Diaz took first place in the 60-pound freestyle, while both Sarah Atkins and Isaiah Ford earned second place finishes. Diaz also grabbed a first place finish in the intermediate Greco division.

Tommy Perez was first in the 75-pound novice freestyle, while Riley Revino also grabbed a second-place finish. In the school boy freestyle action, Vincent Marquez (77 pound) and Jaysen Reindel (136 pound) took first, while Jason Betlej and Austin Pignataro finished with second-place honors.

The squad will be back on the mat Saturday in Turlock.

Knights of Columbus

Hailey Grosney and Blake Greenlee were recognized for their efforts in the Knights of Columbus State Free Throw Championship in Sanger recently.

Grosney took home an eighth-place medallion in the 12-year-old girls bracket, while Greenlee was fourth in the 11-year-old boys division. The pair had to collect three previous victories before reaching the Sanger competition.

The Dodgers got two hits from Derrick Tejada and solid defense from Preston Darter, while the A’s were led by Keanu Duenas’ 3 for 3 day. Teammates Payton Graham and Matthew Jackson were both 2 for 3.

The Pirated collected 40 hits in their action against the A’s, getting a 3 for 3 day from Roman Rattu and Manny Ratu. Noah Calmes and Tyler Toste both were 4 for 4.

Matthew Jackson paced the A’s with a 3 for 3 day.

In the Giants action against the Yankees, Cameron Pickering and Luke Abrew both had three hits, while Greg Adams, Trevor Barnes and Vance Westerdale each had two for the Giants.

The Yankees were led by Cooper Rossi’s 4 for 4 with a grand slam.

In Red Sox and Giants action Tyler Looney had the biggest impact with a homerun for the Red Sox and the Giants got five hits apiece from Cameron Pickering . Luke Abrew, Seth Baker, Trevor Barned all had four hits.

The Yankees were led by two doubles from Evan Jefferey and Malachi Hawkins was 2 for 2, while the Twins got a 4 for 4 night from Brendan Rapisura and Steven Aquila. Aquila had a grand slam and a double.

Minors

Rockies 11, Brewers 0

Louis Aquila tossing a no-hitter and walking two in a win against the Brewers. Austin Driscoll had two RBI for the Rockies.

Aquila stayed hot with a 3 for 3 game in a 10-4 win over the Angels, missing the cycle by a single.the Angels got a hit apiece from Dennis Crum and Romiro Suarez.

The Rockies won 14-2 against the Red Sox, using three hits apiece from Aquila, Valentine and Vinny Mejia. The Red Sox got a double from Austin Scott.
