Late onslaught lifts Northgate into 11U semifinal

SALIDA — Northgate scored seven runs in the last two innings Monday night and held Spreckels Park scoreless for the final three innings in a 12-5 quarterfinal win in the District 67 11U All-Star Tournament at Salida Park.

Jayden Chavez (2 for 3, two RBI, double) had the big hit in a five-run fifth for Northgate, belting a two-RBI single to score Isaiah Barron (3 for 3, two RBI) and Manoah Ellis (two runs). Barron singled in Rylan Luna (RBI) and Derek Trujillo came on a fielder’s choice by Levi Morris. Diesel Spangler (two RBI, run) came in on an error to make the score 10-5.

Northgate added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth. Jameson Hicks (3 for 3, run) led off the frame with a single and came in on a double by Acius Lopez (RBI, double, run). Rylan Luna (RBI, run) singled in Lopez.

Chavez went the first 5.1 innings on the hill, allowing eight Spreckels Park hits in the first two innings but just one hit after that, retiring the last eight batters he faced.

Five consecutive two-out hits led to three runs for Spreckels Park in the second inning. Evan Ziehr started the hit parade with a double and scored on Joseph Rodriguez’s single. Anthony Munoz then singled with Rodriguez and Munoz coming in Chris Mareck’s double to put Spreckels Park ahead 4-3.

The other two Spreckels Park runs came about after triples. Bradyn Morales tripled in the first inning and came in on a Blake Linares single and in the third Linares led off with a triple and scored on Max Neto’s groundout to tie the score at 5-5.

Spreckels Park faces Ripon in a consolation contest Wednesday, and on Thursday, Northgate and Mountain House play in the semifinal. Both games are at 5:15 p.m.

 

Ripon 9, Patterson 1

Ripon’s Mason Dodson held Patterson in check from the mound Sunday in a consolation contest, racking up nine strikeouts in four innings against just one hit. Jessy Vega closed out the final two no-hit innings, striking out three.

Bronson Dietrich led the big bats for Ripon, going 3 for 3 with two RBI, a double and two runs.  Easton Cloward blasted an inside-the-park home run, adding a triple with two runs and two RBI. Jude Segura scored two runs with Hudson Rushing, Benji Sybesma, Vega and Jesse Hernandez adding a run apiece.

Ripon plays Spreckels Park in a consolation game Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.

 

Salida 9, Ripon 6

Salida rallied late Saturday to dispatch Ripon to the consolation bracket.

Ripon jumped out to an early 3-0 on Sybesma’s two-run double. Gio Sandoval and Rushing were on base five out of six at-bats at the top of the lineup and both had an extra base hit. Easton Cloward was 2 for 3 with his only out coming on a great play on a deep fly out.

Bronson Dietrich pitched 3.1 innings, striking out 5 and giving up one run.
