The Manteca Maniacs set out on their maiden voyage Sunday.

The town’s only volleyball club — consisting of just one team, for now — competed in the Northern California Volleyball Association’s season-opening nonleague tournament in Sacramento, winning one of four matches in the 16-year-old-division.

Beth Aschenbrenner led the way with seven kills and 20 digs. McKenna Balmut had 18 digs and seven aces, Bella Garcia Mendez also tallied seven aces and Alyssa Burch pounded eight kills.

The team is coached and founded by Manteca High freshman volleyball coach Angie Ayers.
