Manteca FC Benfica teams open state cup victorious

Manteca Futbol Club’s under-9 and -10 girls soccer teams opened NorCal Premier State Cup play with wins Sept. 18 at Woodward Park.

The under-9 Benfica edged West Coast SC 2-1 with goals coming from Taylor McMahon and Hailey Sims.

The under-10 Benfica won more convincingly, cruising past Ajax United Premier, 4-0. Yasmine Ballew finished with a hat trick, Kassandra Ceja added a goal and Wendi Bucio recorded four saves while keeping the sheets clean.

The older Benfica squad next faces SJSC Spirits Blue this upcoming Sunday, 9 a.m. at Woodward Park. The under-9 team squares off with Ajax United Green Thursday at Modesto Christian High.



Manteca FC Red Devils


The under-13 team went 4-0 to earn the Ajax United Fall Invitational championship this past weekend.

The Red Devils opened with a win over Argentina of Fresno 2-1 before ousting Merced United, 3-1. In the semifinals, they got past host Ajax United Premier 3-1 and edged out Ajax United Elite 1-0 in the title round.

Destiny Hernandez scored twice to lead the Fury’s one-sided win in Manteca Area Soccer League action Sept. 17.

Also scoring were Alina Coronado, Megan Harlan, Adrianna Hernandez and Isabel Quinones. Kareena Escartin contributed an assist.
