The Manteca FC Newcastle under-12 girls soccer team captured its second straight tournament championship this past weekend, winning the Davis Legacy Super Clasico in Davis.

The squad previously claimed the Manteca FC Spring Invitational’s under-13 title in April.

In Davis, the nation’s 10th-ranked under-12 team, according to GotSoccer.com, edged out highly-ranked San Juan Spirits Blue 1-0 in the final round. Dayanna Hernandez nailed the upper corner from outside the penalty area with 2 minutes left. Hernandez was named Player of the Tournament.

Newcastle kicked off tourney action last Friday with an 11-0 drubbing of the Ethos FC Saints. They wrapped up pool play with a 2-0 victory over San Juan SC and an 11-0 shellacking of Davis Legacy TNT Blast.

Manteca FC then victimized Woodland Arsenal 3-0 in the semifinals on Sunday to set up a rematch with San Juan, which edged out Davis Legacy Millennium, 1-0.

Contributing to the attack in the three-day tournament were strikers Mia Cazel, Lejla Pepic, Andrea Eusbio, Daisy Galindo, Malaya-Jae DeLeon and Vivi Albor. They received midfield support from Alexis Vilarino, Faith Chavez, Hannah Hall, Kaila Bishop and Stephanie Zepeda.

Goalkeeper Marcella Salyer kept the sheets clean all tournament with help from defenders Maddie Cuculich, Linnea Natale and Nathalie Munguia.

Now 14-0, Newcastle will look to keep its undefeated start to the season while defending their 2011 crown in the Santa Clara Sporting Girls Invitational on Memorial Day Weekend.
