The Manteca Jaguars defeated Los Banos this past weekend in a Central California Youth Football League clash at Los Banos.
The Jaguars, who are hoping to secure the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, topped the Wildcats in the junior varsity contest, 25-12.
Los Banos started off strong, dominating the first quarter with its ball-control offense.
The game turned around in the second quarter on Mark Paule Jr.’s 15-yard touchdown run.
Manteca added to its tally on Kody Justis’ 6-yard scoring run prior to halftime.
The Jaguars made it 18-6 in the second half, with Manuel DeAvila breaking loose on a 20-yard run.
Manteca added the final touches in the fourth quarter. Paule, who had 105 yards on 12 carries, scored his second touchdown on a 6-yard run.
James Delgado’s two-point conversion catch provided the final margin.
On defense, Justis led the Jaguars with nine tackles, with help from Noah Moral (seven tackles), Carlos Juarez (six tackles), Paule (three tackle, sack, fumble recovery), and DeAvila (two tackles, sack, two forced fumbles, blocked punt).
Felix Duenas, Nelson Orellana, and Justin Kakala also helped out on defense.
The Jaguars were coming off a 31-12 loss to the Turlock 49ers.
Turlock, undefeated, jumped out to an early 22-0 lead.
Manteca finally broke through on a 15-yard pass from Austin Miller to Carlos Juarez shortly before the intermission.
Juarez and Miller hooked up again, with Juarez scoring on the 70-yard, catch-and-run play.
Miller had passed for 181 yards, Juarez tallied three catches for 105 yards, DeAvila had six receptions for 41 yards, and Joseph Knight caught two passes for 30 yards.
On defense, Juarez led the Jaguars with eight tackles, DeAvila had six and Justis finished with five stops.
Manteca will face the Merced Bears on Saturday’s homecoming affair at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium at Sierra High.
The rookie game starts at 10 a.m., with the peewee contest scheduled to begin at 11:30, JV at 1:30 p.m. and varsity at 3:30.
The homecoming dance will be held at Stella Brockman School, from 7 to 10 p.m.
Against Los Banos, Jon Cohen led the Jaguars. He scored three touchdowns while rushing for 157 yards.
Angel Garay also scored while Kobe Shippley led the defense with eight tackles.
In the Rookie division, no score was available.
Dominic Rae led the Jaguars, scoring on a touchdown while gaining 100 yards.
Eric King picked up 51 yards against Los Banos, scoring on a quarterback keeper.
Jakub Kawakami and Leonardo Bonilla also contributed to the Jaguar offense.
Bonilla had six tackles and a sack to spearhead the Manteca defense. Cody Garcia finished with six tackles and Damian Lopez chipped in with two tackles and a sack.
