Mariscal leads Modesto to win over Lancaster

MODESTO (AP) — Chris Mariscal hit a three-run home run and had three hits, driving in five, as the Modesto Nuts exploded for a season-high nine extra-base hits in a 12-7 win over the Lancaster JetHawks on Thursday.
Down 4-0, the Nuts tied it up with four runs in the first inning, including a two-run double by Jordan Cowan.
The Nuts took the lead for good in the second when Logan Taylor hit an RBI double, bringing home Braden Bishop.
Modesto starter Nick Neidert (4-0) picked up the win despite allowing four runs and seven hits over five innings. Opposing starter Trey Killian (5-1) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed 10 runs and 11 hits over three innings. Bryan Bonnell pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his second save of the season.
Modesto hit a season-high eight doubles in its victory.
In the losing effort, Lancaster got contributions throughout its order, as five players collected at least two hits. Wes Rogers homered and singled, scoring two runs.
