What a day to remember for the Benfica girls of Manteca Futbol Club.

On Jan. 26, a Benfica split-squad pulled off a rare double, capturing the under-12 championship at Big League Dreams Sports Park in Manteca and then clinching an under-11 State Cup division crown just down the highway.

The group that won the indoor soccer title was a collection of players from the club’s under-10, 11 and 12 teams. They jelled quickly, defeating the Ripon Strikers to complete an undefeated season.

Benfica was just as dominant outdoors. Coached by Trish Viha and assisted by Paul Balcita, Benfica 02 finished at the top of their under-11 bracket (Diamond 3) and was crowned division champs following State Cup play in Turlock, rounding out a banner season.

Tryouts will be held Feb. 22, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Feb. 24, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Woodward Park.
