MFC Benfica shines at Playdate

The under-9 Benfica Red girls of the Manteca Futbol Club went unbeaten at the NorCal Spring Premier Playdate No. 2 on Sunday.

Benfica Red shut out NYSA North Marin United and Elite Sonic Orange and then battled San Juan to a scoreless draw in their finale at the Mary Grogan Soccer Complex in Modesto.

Goalie Tatianna Orozco had a hand in all three clean sheets. She served as the club’s first-half goalie in each of their wins. She was lifted for Savannagh Scott in the first two games. Joanna Roa played the second against San Juan.

Kaitlyn Espinola and Roa found the back of the net in a 2-0 victory over North Marin United, while Cameron Silva paced the attack against Elite Sonic Orange. Silva scored twice. Chloe Silva, Espinola and Roa also tallied goals in the 5-0 win.

Playing without subs, MFC hung with San Juan, creating several scoring chances.

Perez, Yslava anchor Benfica White attack

Kassandra Perez and Morgan-Nevaeh Yslava scored two goals apiece to lead Benfica White to a 1-1-1 mark at the NorCal Spring Premier Playdate.

White’s only victory came against Ethos Saints, 3-1. Perez scored twice, both on assists from Jenni Nassayan. Yslava tacked on the third goal. She also scored Benfica’s goal in a 1-1 tie with Modesto Ajax Black.

MFC was beaten by Placer United in its finale, 2-0. 

Corrine Jones started all three games in the goal for Benfica. Alexia Alva replaced her in the second half of the first two games.
