Mounts late pick secures Cowboys win over Rams

Justin Mount made a game-saving interception on the road Saturday to give the varsity Manteca Cowboys a 14-12 win over the Modesto Rams in a battle of the DYSA unbeatens.

Joseph Espinoza completed eight passes for 98 yards including a 67-yard scoring throw to Nick Stanley who also had a 13-yard scoring run. A.J. Martinez ained 55 yards on 11 carries and Antonio Montero 45 yards on eight carries.

Alex Alexander led a tough Cowboys defense thatallowed only one touchdown with eight tackles. Anthony Montero, Justin Mount (interception), Joseph Espinosa (interception) and Anthony Contreras all had five stops apiece while Mount and Klayton Torres came up with crucial sacks.

 

Junior Varsity

Cowboys 38, Rams 0

Kimoni Stanley had a 70-yard touchdown run to spark the Cowboys.

Stanley had nine carries for 121 yards with two touchdowns. Leo Bonilla had eight carries for 150 Yards with two touchdowns including one from 65 yards out. Eric Morales was 4 of 5 passing for 59 yards with Asiah Scott notching 52 receiving yards.

Joey Aguirre and Leo Bonilla led the Mangteca defense with eight tackles apiece. Shane Crawford added seven stops, Jamari Mulligan and Sergio Espinoza six apiece, Ronnie Ray (forced rumble) five and Stanley four. Frank Clark recovered a fumble and Nicco Cedolini, Asiah Scott, Vincent Gomez, Trey Bridewell, Jaden Tanforan, Angelo Lopez, Adam Garcia, Aarron Murrilo and Cody Ward all contributed on defense.

 

Rookies

Cowboys 44, Rams 0

The Cowboys scored three second-quarter touchdowns.

Daniel Morales had two 34-yard touchdowns in the big Manteca second period – one on a run ad the other on a 34-yard pass from Cruz Richer. Xaviera Mendes added a with a 15-yard touchdown run in the quarter.

Morales added touchdowns on a 57-yard run, on a 12-yard pass from Richer and on a 20-yard pass to Jordan Ordaz. Richer had one more scoring throw of 47 yards to Try Moreland. Derek Alicia rounded out the Cowboys scoring with a safety.

Carlos Alvarez (fumble recovery), Ryan Faias (forced fumble), Jacob Lopez (fumble recovery),

Tony delacruz, Noel Ruezga and Caleb Perales all played well on defense for Manteca.

 

Rookies

Cowboys 39, Rams 0

Matthew Wilcox scored three first-quarter touchdowns and four before halftime for the Cowboys.

Wilcox finished with 178 yards on eight carries with scoring runs of 5, 40, 59 and 75 yards.  

Alex Cervantes totaled 112 yards on just four carries with touchdown runs of 26, 34 and 52 yards. Bryson Davis added a 3-yard touchdown run.  

Matthew Wilcox and Izayah Houston had six tackles forManteca, Blake Mount five, Josiah Reynaga, Nate Cedolini and Andrew Barnett three apiece with Brandyn Sena getting a quarterback sack.
