STOCKTON —The Manteca bats came alive Tuesday and gave pitcher Isiah Perez much more support than he needed, as the Major All-Stars downed Northgate 10-0 in a five-inning mercy-rule-shortened contest at Paul Weston Park.

Perez was masterful on the mound, going the distance and allowing no hits. Perez struck out nine with only three Northgate batters reaching base – two on errors and one on a fielder’s choice.

Manteca had a relatively balanced 12-hit attack with only three batters getting more than one hit – leadoff batter Jacob Moon (2 for 3, double), Matsua Garcia-Mendez (2 for 3, run) and Chase Costa (2 for 4).

Dylan Gross had the hit of the night for Manteca, blasting a two-run home run over the center-field fence in the third inning that plated Isaac Maldonado, and gave Manteca a 4-0 lead.

Manteca got three runs in the third and ended the game with three runs in the fifth. Garcia-Mendez singled to start the frame followed with singles by Moon and Chase. Garcia Mendez scored on a wild pitch and Moon and Chase came in to score when Maldonado’s line drive to right was bobbled, ending the game on the mercy rule.

Manteca advances to the District 67 Tournament’s championship round on Saturday at 10 a.m. A Manteca win ends the tournament, and a Manteca loss sets up a winner-take-all contest on Sunday. Northgate plays Friday night at 6 against the winner of tonight’s consolation contest between Weston Ranch and Salida with the winner of Friday’s game going against Manteca on Saturday. 



Weston Ranch 10, Spreckels Park 1

Weston Ranch used a six-run fifth inning to stay alive in consolation action.

Amier Bowen led Weston Ranch, going 3 for 3 with two RBI. Carlos Drain homered and was 2 for 3, Anthony Faulk knocked in two runs, going 2 for 3 with a double and Austin Cappas doubled and knocked in a run.

Jared Bagley and Chase Sperbeck doubled for Spreckels Park with Sperbeck stealing home for the lone Spreckels Park run.
