The Nomads Soccer Club is fresh off two successful tournament runs.

Most recently, the Nomads captured the Merced Atlas Cup championship Sunday in Chowchilla, defeating the tournament host Merced Atlas 2-0 for the title. Their most tightly-contested match was in the semifinals, when they edged Argentina FSC 1-1 (5-3 penalty kick shootout). On Saturday, they opened with a 5-2 blowout of the Turlock Tornadoes and a 5-1 drubbing of Atlas.

On Nov. 25-27 in San Diego was the Nomads Thanksgiving Tournament in San Diego. Nomads Soccer Club — which now has programs established in the Fresno and Manteca areas — originated in nearby La Jolla.

The Nomads from up north returned home with the second-place prize after falling to Blues Youth SC in overtime in an intense final-round matchup in overtime, 3-2. The semifinals also produced a doozy, with the Nomads prevailing 2-1 over Aztecs FC Elite. Pool play included wins over Legends FC (1-0), Impact Blue (4-0) and Nomads-Diaz (5-0).
