MOUNTAIN HOUSE — A nine-run second inning by Salida was too much for the Northgate Junior All-Stars to overcome, as Salida rolled 17-5 in a five-inning mercy-rule-shortened contest in the championship quarterfinals of the District 67 All-Star Tournament in Mountain House.

Salida tallied 18 hits that included two home runs – one a grand slam – and two ground-rule doubles.

Northgate got on the board with three runs when it batted around in the third inning. Estevan Salazar and Danny Marquez reached on errors for Northgate and Anthony Contreras hit a Texas-League single to load the bases with one out. Dominic Romero drew a bases loaded walk to plate Salazar for the first run, Marquez came in on an error off the bat of Jacob Peterson and Contreras scored on a single by Jacob Garcia to make the score 11-3.

Contreras had a ground-rule double in the fourth that scored Devon Abrew and Blake Osgood blasted a solo home run in the fifth for the other two Northgate runs. Garcia gave up one run in three innings of relief.

Garcia did the job of a leadoff hitter, reaching base three times while going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Marquez was also 2 for 3.

Northgate plays Spreckels Park today at 1 p.m. in the consolation quarterfinals.
