Novice Knights charge past Modesto Raiders

The Ripon Knights novice scored all of its points in the first half Saturday and pummeled the visiting Modesto Raiders 31-0 in Trans-Valley Youth Football League action at Ripon Christian High School.

Excellent blocking from Nathaniel Grimlado, Levi Reeder, Logan Stirrat, Jaxson Quilantang, Makaio Jackson, Sartajdeep Singh, Brayden Bettencourt, Hunter Margreiter, Cohen Vermeulen, Elijah Hernandez, Aiden John and Mearl Thompson helped lead to a running clock by halftime.

Ripon’s Nikolai Gorbunoff (two carries, 29 yards) scored on 1- and 28-yard runs, Eli Brown (six carries, 71 yards) added a 10-yard touchdown run, Lucas Durao (three carries, 47 yards) scored on a 34-yard run and Chase Johnson returned an interception for a touchdown.

The Knights defense yielded just one first down, and that was by penalty. Gorbunoff and Quilantang led the defense with six tackles each, Eli Brown posted five stops with three apiece for Aiden John, Jackson Rubio, Durao (interception) and Harvin Chohan. Johnson made two interceptions, and Colton Wegner recovered a fumble.

 

Junior novice

Raiders 13, Knights 6

Gil Rangel scored the lone Ripon touchdown.

Rangel tallied 65 yards on 10 carries while Grayson Campbell added 49 yards on three carries. Ben Holfman and Mac Ward contributed to the offense.

Gil Rangel tallied six tackles with three each for Grayson Campbell (interception), Nicolas Rangel and Gunnar Gorbunoff. Hudson Browne, Mack Ward, Dane Van Horn, Malachi Clayton, Hunter Camera, Walter De Jong, Ben Holfman and Michael MacKneilage all contributed to the defense.

Weston Ranch junior varsity 30, Manteca Chargers 0

Damian Ivers recovered a fumble for the Chargers at Guss Schmiedt Field.

Ivers, Josiah Johnson and Eli Ruiz made three tackles apiece, with Christian Porter and Nolan Herrera assisting on defense.

Cougars 38, Chargers 0

Cameron Love posted four tackles for the Chargers

Shayne Sutherland Jr., Jameson Vargas and Legend Johnson added three tackles apiece.

 

Junior Novice

Cougars 47, Chargers 6

Thanks to Derringer Spangler’s 75-yard touchdown run, Manteca trailed 8-6 after the first quarter.

Spangler finished with six carries for 95 yards and he made six tackles. Legend Vincent added five stops and a fumble recovery, Xander Lowry forced a fumble, and Parker Wallace recovered a fumble.
