The Delta Rebels varsity team used a second-half run to race past the Lathrop Jr. Spartans 22-8 at Lathrop High Saturday. The game was the first for both teams in Delta Youth Football League play.

Quarterback Mike Black was in on both of Delta’s offensive scores, including a 50-yard pass play to Juan Martinez. Black scored his other touchdown on the ground.

The Rebels were also sparked by their defense. Joel Melena ran back an interception to paydirt, and the defense contributed a safety to the score.

Delta next takes on the Tracy Cougars, while Lathrop squares off with the Dublin Falcons. Both games will be on the road for the local teams.
