SALIDA – Ripon put up 10 first-inning runs Sunday before coasting to a 13-1 four-inning mercy-rule quarterfinal win over Patterson in the District 67 11-and-under All-Star Tournament at Salida Park.
The first eight batters reached and scored for Ripon. Ryder Heuvel (two RBI) had the big hit of the first inning for Ripon with an RBI triple, scoring Jaxon Herrick (2 for 3, two RBI, two runs). Herrick had an RBI single to plate Vinicio Eleazar-Ponce (RBI, two runs). Ashton Smit doubled in Nathan Gonzales, Eleazar-Ponce singled in Smit, Gonzales plated Connor McGuire and Ayden Brown (2 for 2, two RBI, three runs) singled in Eleazar-Brown. When Brown stole home that was his second run of the inning, along with Eleazar-Brown.
Ripon added three more in the third. Brown singled, stole second and third and came in on Herrick’s single. Herrick scored on a Heuvel groundout and Griffin Dillon singled in Darren Vera.
Heuvel went the first two innings on the mound, striking out six with two hits and a walk. Herrick pitched the last two innings, putting up a 1-2-3 third inning behind a pair of strikeouts and allowing an unearned run in the fourth.
Caleb Pierce was 2 for 2 with a run for Salida.
Ripon plays either Salida or Mountain House in the semifinal Thursday night at 6:30.
