Ripon pitched and powered its way to a pair of mercy-rule wins, 10-0 and 12-0, over Tracy on Friday night to claim the District 67 Junior League All-Star softball championship at Thiemann Athletic Park.
“This is a great group of girls,” Ripon coach Ryan Alexander said. “On the field and off the field.
“I couldn’t ask for anything more from them.”
Kendall Alexander set the tone in the circle for Ripon in the opener, going the distance in the six-inning affair with 15 strikeouts and only two hits. Annabelle Hoff took over in the five-inning nightcap, no hitting Tracy with five strikeouts and allowing just one ball out of the infield.
Sophia Jauregui had the big bat for Ripon on the night with seven RBI, clearing the bases on a double in the first game and following that in the second with a two-out, bases-clearing single to go with another earlier RBI. She scored three runs in the second game.
Ripon notched only 10 hits combined in the two games but drew 18 walks while Tracy committed nine errors. Two of those errors came on one play in the sixth inning of the first game when Ana Shaver (2 for 3, double, two runs) belted a two-out double but came all the way around to score on that pair of Tracy errors.
Ripon’s Emma Jasper and Gracie Balding scored a pair of runs in the second game to go with one apiece in the first contest while Shaver scored two in the first game and one in the second.
Ripon advances to the section tournament next week in Martinez.
