Ripon unable to overcome turnovers

Two turnovers sealed the fate of the Ripon Chiefs varsity in a 36-22 Motherlode Valley Football League loss to the Calaveras Redskins on Saturday. 

Ryan Daggett, Michael Solario and Derric Roy each had a rushing touchdown in a potent ground game that racked up 259 yards.

 

Junior Varsity

Chiefs 42, Redskins 20

A 14-0 fourth quarter iced the game for the Chiefs.

Dorian Dougherty scored on runs of 5, 6, and 53 yards for Ripon and Nico Ilardi hit Aiden Benzinger with a 30-yard touchdown pass. Ilardi, Gunner Bertsch and Benzinger had impressive runs and Matthew Padilla pulled in a 16-yard pass from Ilardi.

Dougherty and Beau Dionio each recovered a fumble and Nathan Valdez was 3 for 6 on conversion kicks.

 

Novice

Chiefs 33, Redskins 0

Blake Nicholson, Isiah San Nicolas, Jackson Holt and Jack Gioffre accounted for the scoring on three touchdowns and their extra points for the Chiefs.

Caleb Johnson recovered a fumble in the end zone for a Ripon touchdown with Ethan Day forcing four fumbles for a Chiefs defense that allowed just three first downs. Jory Sarratt and Jackson Holt were in on four sacks for Ripon.

The Chiefs added another touchdown on a punt return.

 

Junior Novice

Eight players scored a total of 13 touchdowns behind huge holes opened by offensive linemen Marcus Atienza, Ben Adams, Cote Windorski, Stephen Dillman and Emiliano Acosta.

Rushing leader Zander Franco (105 yards) and Seth Van Dyk each scored three touchdowns, Dru Orlando two and Xzavier Clark ran for one score and threw another of 19 yards to Jesse Ochoa. Windorski and Austin Wood each added a touchdown late in the second half and the game ended on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Van Dyk to Dominic Lopez.
