Manteca native and East Union High product Ashley Rose has been rewarded for her outstanding sophomore campaign for William Jessup University’s women’s basketball team.

The 5-foot-6 guard was named the California Pacific Conference Player of the Year after leading the Rocklin-based program to a 9-3 league record and a No. 3 seed in the year-end league tournament.

The Warriors (12-17) faced No. 2 Menlo College in the semifinals on the road Friday. Regular-season champion Holy Names (12-0, 18-12) is the favorite.

Rose led the conference with 18.1 points per game and is the only Warrior to be named to the all-CalPac first team. William Jessup’s Guin Boggs was voted Coach of the Year.

Overall for the season, she is averaging 16.3 points with a team-best 62 made 3-pointers (34.4 percent), 77 assists (2.7 average) and 65 steals (2.2). She is also 143-for-185 (77 percent) from the foul line.

In her senior year at East Union, she was selected the Valley Oak League’s 2009 Most Valuable Player and earned the same honor on the Bulletin’s All-Area team. She graduated as the decorated program’s most prolific single-season 3-pointer shooter.
