One big swing helped lead to one big inning Monday for the Spreckels Park Giants in a 6-5 come-from-behind consolation final win over the Northgate Blue Jays.

The victory sets up a rematch today with the Manteca Red Sox in the District 67 Major Tournament of Champions hosted by Manteca Little League.

The Giants were dispatched to the consolation bracket by the Red Sox on Saturday and will need to win today to set up a winner-take-all finale on Wednesday.

Alex Cervantes led off the bottom of the third for Manteca and reached on a dropped third strike. Louis Aquila (2 for 4) singled and Christian Cruz (2 for 4, three RBI) followed with a blistering line-drive home run to tie the game at 3-3. Winning pitcher Kenny Kuwada reached on an error and later scored on an error – one of four costly mistakes by Northgate – for a 4-3 lead.

The lead grew to 6-3 in the fourth when Aquila reached on an error and Cruz singled. Aquila scored on a Kuwada groundout and Cruz on an infield single by Austin Cook (2 for 3, RBI). The Blue Jays closed within 6-5 in the fifth when Josh Grabowski (3 for 3, RBI) and Scotty Armstrong (3 for 3, double) legged out two-out singles and came home on a single by Phillip Leuvano.

Kuwada pitched into the sixth when he gave up a two-out single to Willy Segura (2 for 4). Aquila came on in relief to induce a groundout to end the game.

Northgate took a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Scotty Armstrong doubled and scored on an error in the second inning and in the third, Willy Segura (2 for 4) and Eric Victoria singled to start the frame. Segura scored on a Gary Alexander groundout and Grabowski singled in Victoria.

The Giants and the Red Sox square off this afternoon at 5:30at the Lincoln Park major field.
