The Lathrop Jr. Spartans’ junior varsity team recorded their ninth shutout in 12 games on Sunday, blanking the East Stockton Yellow Jackets 29-0 in the Delta Youth Football League North Conference championship at Lincoln High of Stockton.

Lathrop (12-0) next squares off with the Tracy Jr. Bulldogs at Kimball High in Tracy Saturday, Dec. 1 in a rematch of last year’s DYFL junior varsity Super Bowl.

The Yellow Jackets could not stop Jr. Spartans running back Michael Ramos. He carried the ball 13 times for 221 yards, nearly half of which came on his touchdown scampers of 67 and 42 yards. Ramos also hauled in one pass for 23 yards.

Harvey Cuellar added 108 yards and two touchdowns (1, 38 yards) on just seven rushes.

The defense, meanwhile, didn’t allow a first down all game.

Jr. Bulldogs 38, Rebels 18

The Delta Rebels (9-3) are feeling optimistic despite ending their season with a loss. With only 22 players on the roster, this group became the first Rebels team since 2007 to reach the DYFL South Conference title game.

Delta was slow to start offensively, ending up with 222 yards and two touchdowns passing. It scored another touchdown with a short run. The defenses guarded a short field throughout, as a blocked punt and offensive turnovers put Tracy well within striking distance. The margin of defeat could have been worse, but the defense came through with three recovered fumbles for turnovers.
