Yes on Q effort surpasses $100K to push passage
Manteca businesses, labor groups, firefighters, local residents, youth sports organizations, and builders have a lot riding on Measure Q on Tuesday’s ballot. As of Oct. 27, the Yes on Q Committee has now raised $103,549.30 to fund its campaign to gain passage of the 20-year long three-quarter cent sales tax on Nov. 5.

YOUTH ROUNDUP: Manteca Cowboys tame Stockton Panthers in blowout

 Elias Lopez threw for three touchdowns Saturday to lead the visiting Manteca Cowboys varsity to a 39-6 win over the Stockton Panthers in Central Valley Youth Football and Cheer action at Bear Creek High School’s Podesto Field.

Lopez 83 (yards passing) connected with Tobias Cox for a 42-yard touchdown pass, and Terrance Montgomery (35 yard receiving, 30 yards rushing) pulled in touchdown passes of 12 and 15 yards. Andres Duque added a 1-yard scoring plunge and the Cowboys defense scored twice – once on a fumble returned for a touchdown by Aiden Spino and on Johnathan Morales’ interception returned for a score.

Morales made seven tackles and Spino six.


Manteca Jr. Buffaloes 28, Tracy Buccaneers 6

Manteca’s Blake Scalise threw for one touchdown and ran for another at Weston Ranch High School.

Scalise (6 of 8 passing, 108 yards) hit Erian Johnson Jr. (two receptions, 63 yards) with a 46-yard touchdown throw and ran in a score from 12 yards out. Santino Sanchez (10 carries, 76 yards) scored on a 4-yard run and Vinny Diaz (five carries, 54 yards) added a 7-yard touchdown run. Gabe Ramirez, Elijah Velasquez and Issac Estrada all contributed to the offense.

Johnson Jr. made eight tackles, Diaz six with five apiece for Isileli Lolohea (fumble recovery), Sanchez and Kyle Acker.


Junior varsity

Panthers 26, Cowboys 6

Manteca’s Nolan Mendez scored on a 9-yard run.

Izaiah Faye gained 46 yards on 11 carries for the Cowboys, and Brady Davis contributed to the offense.

Manteca’s Josiah Hopkins made seven tackles and a fumble recovery, and Rafael Nunez added four stops.


Rookies

Cowboys 36, Panthers 24

Manteca’s Mateo Gavino scored three touchdowns.

Gavino gained rushing 129 yards, Alex Gomes scored on his lone carry of 65 yards and Donavyn Williams posted a touchdown run.

Alejandro Hernandez (five carries, 63 yards), Hudson Green (five carries, 52 yards) and Adriel Cedano rounded out the Cowboys attack.

Gavino, Daniel Salcedo and Xavier Duvernay made four tackles apiece with Green adding three stops.

Cedano legged out a 56-yard kickoff return and Sebastian Leon totaled 36 yards on four kickoff returns.

Manteca’s Brixxton Fryer scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter.

Harrison Catalano paced the Jr. Buffaloes with 46 yards on 10 carries.

Cowboys 19, Panthers 0

Manteca used a balanced attack in the shutout win.

Aaron Hernandez scored for the Buffaloes on a 69-yard run, Jackson Batterson added a 30-yard touchdown run and Frankie Nieto scored from 60 yards out.

Batterson made eight tackles, Hernandez snagged an interceptions and Luis Quezada forced and recovered a fumble.
