STOCKTON — The rematch wasn’t as close as the first one, but Ripon coach Chris Musseman expected better from his Indians, 240-315 winners over host Weston Ranch Monday at Van Buskirk Golf Course.
The two teams opened the preseason Feb. 23 on the par-31 front nine at Jack Tone Golf Course, with Ripon prevailing, 192-217.
But with Weston Ranch’s Ryan Ortiz out Monday, Ripon (4-1) was hardly challenged.
“The kids didn’t play as well as they should have,” Musseman said. “We were probably 10 strokes away from where we should have been.
“I know it was tough for the guys to stay focused. (Weston Ranch) was missing a couple of guys. I was there last year, so I understand.”
Medalist honors was shared by Ripon teammates Daniel Cardoza and Jake Ratto, who each carded a 9-over-par 45. Mark Biegelow finished with a 47, Matty Gay a 51 and Jordan Williamson 52.
Weston Ranch was paced by Tim Weatherwax’s 52 and was followed by James Aragon’s 53, Dionne Narcisse’s 59, Thomas Medeiros’ 70 and Buddy Rayray’s 81.
In a make-up match at Manteca Park Golf Course Monday, Miguel Dominguez scored a solid 1-over 38 to set up undefeated Sierra’s big match against Oakdale today at Oakdale Country Club.
Luis Zepeda and Paul Michaeletto each turned in a solid 41, brothers Joey and Sammy Matts carded 42 apiece, and Michael Hajenga recorded a 43.
Sierra (2-0, 4-0) tees off against Oakdale at 3 p.m. today.
