OAKDALE – The word around Valley Oak League clubhouses heading into this season is that Oakdale would scare more than its fair share of opponents this season.

Someone forget to send Sierra the memo.

In an early-season statement match Tuesday afternoon, the Timberwolves had very little trouble with the Mustangs at Oakdale Country Club, winning comfortably, 210-239.

“The kids did a good job, the course was in great shape,” Sierra head coach Jeff Williams said. “The greens were unbelievably fast and the pins were tucked away. We had some four-putts.”

Joey Matts, Miguel Dominguez and Paul Michaleto all finished with 5-over-par 41’s, Luis Zepeda turned in a 43, and Michael Hajenga had a 44.

Sammy Matts had the throw-out at 45.

“I’m very proud of their effort,” Williams said. “We just need to keep plugging away.”
