Northgate attack erupts late while Mount silences SPLL

Blake Mount took the hill Monday for Northgate ‘A’ with two outs in the top of the fourth inning with his team leading Spreckels Park ‘A’ by two runs. Mount got out of the inning on two pitches and blanked Spreckels Park ‘A’ in the fifth while Northgate ‘A’ got eight across in those two frames for a 17-7 five-inning mercy rule win in the consolation semifinal of the Little League District 67 9-10 All-Star Tournament at Northgate Little League’s Gillen Field. 

Batting leadoff, Ashton Heath (2 for 3, three RBI, four runs) reached base five times with he and Anthony Sy (2 for 4, double, RBI, run) getting the big hits for Northgate ‘A’ in the four-run fourth.  Heath had a two-RBI single to plate Carson Sanders and Sy belted a two-RBI double to score Zach Grabowski and Heath.

Noah Calmes (2 for 3, double, triple, two RBI) had an RBI triple for Northgate ‘A’ in the fifth with Sanders and Heath also getting an RBI in the inning. Fernando Alaniz (2 for 3, two RBI, double, two runs) had a two-run double in a four-run second for Northgate ‘A’ and Calmes knocked in two run with a double in a three-run first.

Northgate ‘A’ scored three in the first and two in the second. In the first, Rylan McDonald hit in Anthony Grady, Noah Aguirre (2 for 3, two RBI, run) singled in Hunter Donham and Paul Pimentel hit a double to score Wyatt Bauer. 

Bauer doubled and Aguirre singled to start the third for Northgate ‘A’ and both came home on bases-loaded walks.

Northgate ‘A’ and Manteca ‘A’ face off today in the championship round at 5:30 p.m. A Manteca ‘A’ win ends the tournament and a Northgate ‘A’ win sets up a winner-take-all contest Wednesday.
