Northgate 9-10 all-stars crush Manteca

The Northgate 9-10 All Stars scored in every inning Tuesday — including six in the second and eight in the fifth — on the way to a 21-6 five-inning win over Manteca to reach the of the District 67 All-Star Tournament final through the consolation bracket.

Northgate faces Mountain House at 5:30 p.m. tonight in the championship round. Northgate needs to win to force a winner-take-all contest on Thursday.

Northgate rapped out 12 hits while taking advantage of 10 walks and seven Manteca errors and was led by Jack Cunial who went 3 for 3 with a double, two RBI, three runs and a walk. Ashton Heath was 2 for 5 with a triple and three RBI. Noah Calmes went 2 for 4 with three runs, Ivan Alvarez had a two-RBI double, two walks and three runs; Ivan Vieira had a two-RBI double and Tyler Toste scored three runs.

Northgate distributed the pitching load between Heath, Luke Abrew, Tyler Looney, Calmes and Ivan Alvarez.

Manteca had the lone home run of the night, a two-run shot off the bat of Andrew Maki that scored Dylan Zimmerman (2 for 3, double, run) who doubled to lead off the second inning. Garrison Reis had an RBI double and Alex Murrietta had a double.

Reis’ RBI double made the score 13-4 in the fourth inning and temporarily took Manteca out of the mercy rule, but Northgate scored eight runs in the top of the fifth and Manteca could not respond in the bottom of the frame.
