LATHROP – With a tie score, two outs and two pinch hitters due up for Northgate, things were looking pretty good for Salida on Wednesday in the fourth inning of its quarterfinal contest in the District 67 Major All-Star Tournament at Mossdale Landing Park.

The Northgate pinch hitters would have something to say about that.

A strike away from ending the inning, Josh Hebert laced a 2-2 offering for a single to set up Cameron Torres who came up next and blasted one over the fence. Logan Harries followed with a double and then Dennis Crum hit the second two-run shot of the inning for a four-run lead on the way to an 8-2 win.

Josh Grabowski hit and pitched well, going 2 for 3 with two runs and three stolen bases while pitching five innings with 13 strikeouts – striking out the side twice – and allowing just one hit. Leadoff batter Logan Harries was 2 for 3 with a double.

Northgate will play Manteca in a semifinal tilt Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Manteca 12,
Tracy National 1(4)

Manteca took advantage of three Tracy National errors in a 10-run third inning and had a two-run home run from Isaac Searcy and a two-RBI single from Will Rocha in the frame to help end the game via the mercy rule after four innings.

Garren Genilla and Austin Kovacs kept Tracy National off the bases for most of the game with Genilla going 2.1 innings with four strikeouts and Kovacs going 1.2 innings with five strikeouts. The duo combined to allow two hits.

Rocha was 2 for 2 with two RBI and two runs for Manteca and Briggs Alavezos added a double.
