ELK GROVE — Manteca had little trouble getting past Laguna Creek in its nonleague opener Tuesday, rolling to an 8-1 victory.

Taylor Corona coasted 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match. Koryn Menasco (6-4, 6-3), Julia Tang (6-0, 6-2), Stephanie Mercado (6-0, 6-2), Gladis Sandoval (6-1, 6-2) and Makenna Condit (6-0, 6-0) combined to make it a singles sweep. Sandoval is the lone senior in the starting lineup and the team captain.

“It was a good first outing and I saw a lot of positives,” Manteca coach MaryAnn Tolbert said. “We are young, but most have had experience the past few years.”

The top doubles team of Rav Dhillon and Navina Mann were 6-1, 6-0 victors. The No. 2 tandem of Julianne Eavenson and Noeli Mercado shut out their opponents. Manteca’s only loss came at No. 3 doubles, but underclassmen Gabby Sansoni and Danielle Diaz were competitive before falling, 6-4, 5-7, 7-10.

The Buffaloes are back in action Thursday at home against Gregori starting at 3:30 p.m.
