One of the most prestigious amateur golf events in Northern California will be played at the Manteca Park Golf Course this Saturday and Sunday, May 12 and 13. The 36th Annual Manteca City Stroke Play Golf Championship attracts the best amateur golfers in the state. Past contestants include current PGA Tour professional Matt Bettencourt of Modesto.

Competing this year are local golfers Will Brink, Brent Beck, Manny Melendrez, Gary Rotert, and Mike Banton. Also competing is female junior golf standout Cassie Cathrea who led a past event with a first round score of 68.

This event is one of four Northern California Golf Association “Player Point Events”played annually at the Manteca Park Golf Course. The golf course hosts more prestigious golf tournaments than any other in the valley and is the only municipal golf course to ever host a national NCAA tournament, the Far Western Intercollegiate Golf Championship.

Spectators are welcome with the tournament starting at 7 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
