Manteca volleyball alone in 3rd after sweeping Cougars

Stockton— Manteca High’s volleyball team started a busy four-day stretch Monday with a sweep of Weston Ranch that broke up a third-place tie between them in the Valley Oak League.

The Buffaloes (4-2 VOL, 6-5 overall) squeaked out the first game but was in control the rest of the way en route to a 25-23, 25-17, 25-13 win. They got strong back-row play from Tawny Deerinck who had 10 digs to go along with 18 service points and three aces. Setter Kaitlin Morenzone had 11 digs and nine assists. Payton Reis led the attack with nine kills, while Destanie Elliot had five blocks.

Amaya Finley collected 10 kills and nine digs for Weston Ranch (3-3, 8-8). Jennifer Viguerias finished with 11 assists, Nicka Mallari served three aces, Iris Murphy had 10 digs and Janis Sanchez and Cassandra Alcazar turned in three blocks apiece.

Manteca won the sophomore match 25-16, 25-13. The Weston Ranch freshmen (4-2, 9-2) swept, 25-18, 25-17.

 

Ripon 3,

Riverbank 0

RIPON — Lauren Wiebe spearheaded the offenses with 32 assists and eight aces as the Indians coasted 25-16, 25-11, 25-10 in Trans-Valley League action.

Sam McCreath contributed 14 kills, Ashlyn Eisenga had 10 digs and Courtney Slamon finished with two blocks. The sophomore squad won handily 25-6, 25-7, while the freshman team nipped Ripon Christian, 25-16, 19-25, 15-13.

 

TENNIS

Manteca 8, Oakdale 1

OAKDALE — The Buffaloes (10-2 VOL, 11-2 overall) clinched a spot in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs on Monday.

Elizabeth Tolbert toppled Danika Brown 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match. Koryn Menasco (6-2, 2-6, 6-1), Taylor Corona (6-2, 6-1), Gladis Sandoval (6-4, 6-2) and Julia Tang (6-4, 6-0) also earned points in singles play.

The No. 1 doubles team of Navinna Mann and Makenna Condit rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Jessica Tang and Rav Dhillon contributed a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win. Julianne Eavenson and Ivy Benson came back to beat Taryn Lane and Shannen Yang, 1-6, 6-2, 10-7.

 

GOLF

Sierra 258, Lathrop 379

Timberwolves Legacy Barnes (47), Arlena Gavino (48) and McKenna Doyle (49) were the top three finishers in Monday’s VOL dual match at Manteca Park Golf Course. Kayla Wilson added a 56 for Sierra (8-4). Kaitlyn Looney and Bryanna Gavino each recorded a 58. Haley Mathews shot a 71 to pace Lathrop.

Jenn Morrow spearheaded Central Catholic with a 47 and was followed by 49s from Emily Lehman and Sedonia Estacio.

Danika Hunt scored a 52 to lead Manteca. Arshnoor Kaur chipped in a 55.
