Goalie Tatiana Orozco turned in an MVP performance, lifting the Benfica Red 05 girls soccer team to a thrilling third-place finish at the MFC Spring Invitational.

Orozco came up with one clutch save after another during regulation, overtime and the penalty kick shootout as Benfica Red – a under-9 girls soccer team with the Manteca Futbol Club – defeated the Lodi Crush Orange in the consolation final.

Benfica Red went 2-1-1 over the weekend, beginning with a resounding 6-1 victory over the Madera Scorpions.

Joanna Roa and Presley Perez scored two goals apiece, while Kaitlyn Espinola and Kaya Whittaker each had one.

Orozco split time in net with Savannagh Scott.

Benfica Red split with San Bruno, 2-2. Perez and Jaylyn Ruiz accounted for the scoring.

Violet Fegroso tallied Benfica Red’s only goal in a 6-1 loss to Ajax Junior Green. It would be MFC’s only setback of the tournament.

Orozco made sure of it, saving her best performance for last. She battled through injuries and extra time against Lodi, earning the team MVP award from head coach Manuel Pires.
