Purchase gift cards to avoid long lines

If you haven’t started your Christmas shopping yet, my best advice for you is purchasing gift cards.

Last night I decided to visit one of my local department stores. Once inside, it was evident to me that if I planned on purchasing something, it was going to be a long wait in line before I would be getting out of the store. So, I simply walked out of the store and checked that off my possible shopping options.

Instead, I decided that I would wake up as early as I could on my first day off of work and do my shopping at that time. The store was a little busier than expected but it was difficult finding anyone that could help me with items that were behind the counter or locked up. So, I ended up purchasing gift cards.

Every major tackle shop that I’ve been to sells gift cards. If you’re like me who always ends up shopping at the last minute and who tries to avoid the long lines, gift cards can be your best option this time of year.

Delta

Fishing for bass has been tough for a lot of anglers as very few limits are being caught. Those targeting bass are fishing mainly with jigs and crawdad imitating baits.

Fishing for stripers is tough, as very little schooling activity is being reported. Schools of striper are being found by anglers fishing Sycamore and Hog Slough.

Bluegill fishing continues to be good for anglers fishing around docks and marinas with wax worms.

New Melones

Trout fishing is great. Anglers are starting to bring in limits while fishing off the bank. The hot bait has been Power Bait. Anglers trolling are catching fish up shallow but they have been a lot smaller than the ones caught off the bank. Because of this, a lot of boaters have chosen to drift live minnows under a bobber in the backs of coves in order to target the bigger trout. Angels Cove and Glory Hole Cove have been the hot areas trout.

Glory Hole boat ramp is finally open due to the rise in water levels. Bass fishing remains consistent as the bass have moved deeper. The bigger bass are being caught by swim baits as they are definitely following the trout up shallow. For numbers, try targeting points and backs of creeks with soft plastics and jigs.

Don Pedro

The trout bite is good for anglers fishing from the surface down to 25 feet deep. Anglers are targeting the bigger fish that are combing the bank while using side planers and trolling a variety of shad imitating lures. Bass fishing has slowed right now as anglers are struggling to find a consistent bite anywhere on the lake. There have been a few anglers that have been able to catch fish on spoons while searching for schooling fish.

Lake Camanche

Fishing for trout is very good both in the lake and in the pond. Anglers fishing for trout are doing well will fishing with Power Bait or casting various trout imitating lures along the bank.

Bass fishing has been steady for anglers fishing offshore structure. Locating schools of bass following schools of shad seems to be the key to catching them. Once the schools are found anglers are fishing with either spoons or a drop-shotted Robo Worm in a shad color.

Tip of the Week

Fishing in the winter can be really tough on a person. One of the most overlooked parts of the body while trying to stay warm are a person’s hands and feet. What I’ve learned over the years is that everyone’s a little different.

A certain pair of gloves of boots may be just fine for one while someone else wearing the exact same gloves and boots might have a problem staying warm. It’s important to try a few different types of clothing until you find out what works best for you.
