Sea Lions capture MVSL title; area swimmers break records

MODESTO — Twelve meet records fell, and the Ripon Sea Lions capped off its banner season in the Mid-Valley Swim League Championships held Saturday at Downey High.
The dominant Sea Lions placed first in the combined boys and girls team scoring with 2,017.50 points. The Turlock Sea Dogs was the runner-up (1,581), and the Manteca Dolphins ended up sixth (449).
Ripon had a league-best seven high-point individual champions crowned. Veteran Sea Lion Andria Martin set meet records in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.48) and 100 backstroke (1:04.29) en route to claiming the 17-18 Tgirls division title.
Emery Biedermann and Adriana Dorn won high-point honors in the younger girls divisions and were also part of record-setting performances.
Biedermann broke a meet record that stood for 30 years in winning the 6-under 25 backstroke in 20.04. She also won the 25 free and 50 free, setting program records in both, as well as the mixed 100 free relay.
Dorn was the top 7-8 girls competitor in the 25 fly, 50 free and 25 free for her individual trophy. She joined Clara Townsend, Jaya Fasani and Reyna Biedermann to break a 16-year-old record in the 100 medley relay (1:16.59).  Dorn, Fasani, Biedermann and Ariana Valleau won the 100 free relay.
Jacob Thompson reigns in the 15-16 boys division after winning the 100 individual medley, 100 breast, 50 free and 200 free relay with Leo Reynoso, Sebastian Mora and Nik Brink. His 100 IM time of 59.75 seconds is a new meet record.
Nate Slikker topped the 7-8 boys field with wins in the 50 free, 25 fly and 25 free. Slikker was also on the winning 100 medley and 100 free relays with Nathan Trujillo, Alton Mensonides and Matthew Lee.
Sea Lions teammates Ben Corgiat and Carter Mensonides split the top award in the 9-10 boys division. Corgiat won the 100 IM and 100 free while placing second in the 50 fly. Mensonides took first in the 50 fly, and 50 back and finished as the runner-up to Corgiat in the 100 IM. Corgiat also won the 200 medley and 200 free relays with Ryan Bell, Evani Gaeta and Jackson Runnels.
Manteca has two high-point champions in Michael Chavez and Johnny Buonauro. Chavez won the 11-12 boys division with wins in the 100 free, 50 fly and 50 free. Buonauro won the 50 free and came up eight tenths of a second short of tying the 100 IM record in 59.08.
Gabriel Monasterio was another Dolphins standout, winning the 11-12 boys 50 back with a new meet record time of 30.94. Samantha Cerritos was the 15-16 girls 50 free winner.
Ripon’s 9-10 girls free relay team of Amelia Trejo, Jennifer Graves, Keira Brink and Riley Slikker broke the meet record in 2:05.30. Graves, Trejo and Slikker were joined by Natalie Titsworth in winning the 200 medley relay.
Others winning individual races for Ripon: Hollis Fasani (6-under girls 25 fly, mixed 100 free relay), Paloma Cantre (6-under mixed 100 free relay), Christian Runnels (6-under mixed 100 free relay), Molly Burton (13-14 girls 100 free, 200 medley relay), Lilly Crew (13-14 girls 200 medley relay), Kate Villegas (13-14 girls 200 medley relay), Madyson Valencia (13-14 girls 200 medley relay), Jennifer Graves (9-10 girls 50 back), Amelia Trejo (9-10 girls 50 breast), Ben Rodgers (9-10 boys 50 breast) and Brody Biedermann (9-10 boys 50 free).
The rec season ends this Saturday and Sunday with the 17th annual Sacramento Valley Meet of Champions at Roseville Aquatic Complex.
