Timberwolves ward off McNair in final tune-up

STOCKTON — Sierra ended its nonleague schedule on a high note Thursday, vanquishing host McNair in four games, 11-25, 25-23. 26-24, 25-22.

The Timberwolves (4-2) did it with solid back row play led by Genni Hammarstrom’s 15 digs. Vanessa Benham anchored the front row with five kills and four blocks. Setter Emma Brierly contributed 11 assists.

Sierra swept the lower-level contests, as both teams also improved to 4-2. The sophomore squad won 25-12, 25-22. The freshmen coasted to a 25-7, 25-13 win and were highlighted by Natalie Dias’ service run spanning 12 points. She finished with 15 service points, while Alexis Flores had two kills and Stella Brierly provided strong defense.

Sierra opens Valley Oak League action next Monday at defending champion Oakdale.

The Buffaloes (3-1) suffered their first defeat , falling 25-23, 18-25, 18-25, 19-25.

Rhiannon Genilla recorded eight kills, Destanie Elliot had four blocks, Kaitlyn Morenzone served 14 points, Kacy Bolding handed out 11 assists and Tawny Deerinck collected 15 digs.
