Weston Ranchs Huerta first in subsection race

Thomas Huerta of Weston Ranch won the boys Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Subsection Cross Country Championship at Frogtown in Angels Camp on Saturday, completing the 3.0 mile course in 16 minutes, 30 seconds.

 In varsity competition, the top 10 individual and teams will advance to the SJS section championships at Willow Hill in Folsom on Saturday.

 Huerta led the Cougars to a second-place team finish along with Alec Araquel (17:20), Nicholas Curtright (17:52), Jerry Ramirez (18:30) and Jeremiah Robancho (18:32).

 Sierra’s Garet Stone was fourth (17:36) in Division IV and led the Timberwolves to a fourth-place team finish. Also running for Sierra were Jesse Hurtado (17:55), Sabas Montes (17:56), Anthony Sequeira (18:00) and Isaias Ghezae (18:15). Lathrop’s Juan Diaz qualified sixth (17:52) individually.

Iris Carrillo of Weston Ranch (19:12) was third in girls Division IV. Ripon’s Ellie Waters was seventh (20:11) and her Indians qualified as a team, finishing eighth with Kayla Jacklich (21:21), Avery Thomason (22:32), Makeila Hinrichsen (23:11) and Isabel Sweet (23:40).

Crystal Baltazar qualified seventh (21:20) for Lathrop and teammate Terrina Phillips ninth (21:34).

The Ripon Christian girls finished fifth in Division V with Brittany Bloemhof (23:36), Alysia Templeman (23:42), Bailey Broker (24:15), Heidi Tazelaar (25:47) and Miranda Ayala (26:33).

The frosh/soph course was two miles and in freshman Division IV Lathrop’s Vince Prasad finished second (12:35). Julia Vezaldenos of East Union finished second (14:06) in the frosh/soph Division III girls and the Lancers girls qualified third as a team in frosh/soph Division III girls. 

The Manteca boys sophomores qualified sixth as a team in sophomore Division III and the Manteca junior varsity girls qualified second as a team.
