Wilbers late pick seals Knights JV win over Hilmar

Owen Wilber intercepted a Hilmar Packer pass at his own 1-yard line with 25 seconds remaining Saturday to seal a 12-6 win for the Ripon Knights junior varsity in Trans-Valley Youth Football League action at Ripon Christian High School. 

Defensive end Andrew Mensonides got Ripon on the board when recovered a fumble in the end zone for the first Knights touchdown of the year. The Knights offense led by the quarterback Jace Beidleman and tough running from Carson Sanders and Brooks Wheatley got the go-ahead touchdown with just over two minutes remaining when Wheatley scored from 1 yard out on fourth and inches.

 

Novice

Hilmar Packers 12, Ripon Knights 6

The Packers scored on the last play of the game for the win. 

Hunter Steele had a standout game on both sides of the ball for the Knights with a 51-yard touchdown run and five tackles. 

Mario Garcia led the Ripon defense with nine tackles and a forced fumble followed by Nikko Juarez (four tackles) and Brody Nail and Devon Richardson with two apiece.

 

Jr. Novice

The Knights scored six touchdowns. 

Landon Corcoran and Christian Chavez had two touchdowns each with Gavin Decena and Mason Durao bopth scoring one behind the offensive line of of Alax Bettencourt, Mason Brum, Jaiden Chandar, Evan Gyger, Van Hendrix, Dylan Parker, Wyatt Prime, Andrew Ribeiro, Jesse Walker, and Caelan Johnston. 

 

The Ripon defense held Hilmar to just one touchdown thanks to Kaeo Sanchez (interception), Anthony Alves, Jax Booth, Jayden Huber, Keegan Kosaka, Logan Qualls, Alax Rader, Nate New and Carmelo Rodriguez.
