Squires back on track with win over Wildcats

The East Union sophomore boys basketball team evened its Valley Oak League record at 1-1 with a 50-42 win over Sonora Friday night at the Dalben Center.
TeeJay Gordon led the way with 17 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
Lawrence Baraan added 11 on a 9-of-12 clip from the stripe.
Manteca 41, Oakdale 39
Eric Godfrey hit two key free throws as Manteca pulled out a tough one against the Mustangs.
Taylor Hasal Finished with eight, C.J. Rivas had 11 and Jahan Petiford had six.
With the win, the Buffs moved to 3-0 in VOL play and 11-2 overall.
Ceres 53, Sierra 36
Grant Widmer had nine, while Jerrod Patton and Bryce Hicks both had six in the loss.
“Ceres out-played and out-hustled us tonight,” Sierra head coach Justin Muschott said. “We are a better team than this, but it didn’t show tonight. We need to refocus and prepare for Oakdale (Wednesday).
Sierra slipped to 2-1 in VOL play and 5-7 overall.
Freshman
Oakdale 43, Manteca 22
Kenny Gaines and Ben O’Dell both had six in the loss.
“Oakdale was just too strong,” Manteca head coach Dave Fontanilla said. “We came out flat and couldn’t recover.”
Manteca slipped to 2-1 in VOL play and 9-5 overall.
Ceres 62, Sierra 45
Jojo Berry had 13, and Aneil Sahota had 12, but it wouldn’t be enough in the loss.
Sierra dropped to 1-2 in VOL play and 4-8 overall.
East Union 63, Sonora 33
The Pages stormed out to a 21-2 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
Zac Carillo had 12 points and seven rebounds, Wayne Chung had 11 and Brock Swift added eight.
Ronnie Tiscareno was key off the bench.
With the win EU moved to 2-0 in VOL play and 9-2 overall.
