Squires pounce on Tigers early

East Union High’s sophomore baseball team did all of its damage at the start, and it was more than enough to upend visiting Patterson 12-6 Monday.

The Squires (2-0) staggered Patterson early with six runs in the first, four in the second and two more in the third. Andrew Austin (three strikeouts) was relieved after four solid innings, leaving the rest up to Bret Riley (two IP, no hits, no walks, four k’s) and TeeJay Gordon.

Justin Dias batted 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs. Steven Gigli plated a pair of runs and drove in another. Caleb Towle contributed a two-run knock in the first inning.

East Union 21, Los Banos 1

In Los Banos, Amanda Faulkner was stellar from the pitcher’s circle and the batter’s box to lead the 6-0 Pages.

Faulkner fanned eight batters and walked none in her five-inning no-hitter, and she belted four hits, including a pair of doubles, in five at-bats.

Ashley Duenas clubbed a double and four RBIs to highlight her 3-for-4 outing. Kailee Nuding was 3 for 3, and Ashley Cook finished 2 for 3 with a double, triple and five RBIs.

East Union walloped 19 base hits by game’s end.

The Pages continue their non-league schedule against Modesto Friday, 3:30 p.m. at Northgate Park.
