Swimmers show well at Far Westerns

PLEASANTON — Ripon Aquatics had some notable performances in the four-day USA Swimming Far Westerns held at Dolores Bengston Aquatic Center last week. 

Year-round programs hailing from Iowa, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and other western states made the trip. Nearly 1,600 competitors entered in the event, which ended Sunday.

Ripon High junior Ty Wells was the best all-around swimmer for Ripon Aquatics. He totaled 17 points after winning the 100-yard freestyle in 47.29 seconds and taking ninth in the 100 butterfly in 54.06. Wells also reached the 100 breaststroke finals, clocking a time of 59.13 seconds.

Manteca High freshman Matthew Trejo swam in four different events but saved his best for last, qualifying for the 200 butterfly finals and placing second with a time of 1 minute, 55.84 seconds.

Mallory Brubaker of Ripon High took fourth in the 1,000 free, finishing in 10:43.05 while dropping 4.95 seconds from her previous best mark. She also swam the 500 free.

Sierra freshman Meghan Tolman (100 breast), Ripon’s Amber Scheid (100 breast) and Ripon’s Elizabeth Wenner (100 free, 100 back) also took part in the event. 

Gregori’s Andrew Britton was the 200 breast runner-up and took seventh in the 200 IM to earn 13 points. He also competed in the 200 free and 500 free. 

Caden Nord of Oakdale racked up 11 points, taking ninth in the 100 free and qualifying for the 50 free finals.  Downey’s Kyle White chimed in with 7.5 points, finishing third in the 50 free.

 

U12 boys soccer

MFC Rebels 2,

Modest Ajax 2

The Manteca FC  05 U-12 Rebels played to a draw with the Modesto Ajax on Sunday at Tesoro Park.

The Rebels (0-1-1) scored on a free kick by Hayden Beier in the 17th minute and then made it 2-0 in the 27th minute on a finish by Matthew Kain. Ajax scored twice in the final 15 minutes.

Aiden Dolin-Lira had six saves for the Rebels. 

 

Oakdale Earthquakes 2, Rebels 0

MODESTO — After scoring in the first half Saturday the Earthquakes added an insurance goal with four minutes left.

Dolin-Lira made seven saves for the Rebels.
