STOCKTON (AP) — William Toffey had four hits and four RBI as the Stockton Ports topped the Lake Elsinore Storm 8-4 on Sunday.
Stockton started the scoring in the first inning. After leading off the inning with a single, Nate Mondou advanced to second on a walk by Luis Barrera and then scored on a double by Greg Deichmann.
After Stockton added three runs in the fifth, the Storm cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Hudson Potts hit an RBI single and then scored on a two-run single by Ruddy Giron.
The Ports later added three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth. In the seventh, Toffey drove in two runs and Luke Persico drove in one, while Toffey hit an RBI single in the eighth.
Stockton starter Matt Milburn (1-0) picked up the win after scattering five hits over five scoreless innings. Opposing starter Pedro Avila (0-1) took the loss in the California League game after giving up four runs and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.
