Arlen’s back!

Working in his East Yosemite Avenue shop for 50 years, Arlen Gomes closed his doors “temporarily” to have surgery on his rotator cuff – a seven-year-old softball injury.

Arlen has been missing in barbering since March 18, returning to work last week in the 500 block of East Yosemite Avenue.  He’s working five days a week, taking phone appointments for only eight clients each day.

He said he was getting bored sitting home and watching television.  A well known jogger around the Ripon community, Arlen said he couldn’t continue after surgery because running causes a vibration in his shoulder.  He did a lot of walking instead, he said.

Arlen said in his 50-year tenure he had been away from his shop for only six weeks when he had heart surgery.  He’s letting his clientele know he’s back, calling some 90 of them on the telephone and letting them know his appointment schedule is open.

Gomes said his injury came from playing left field in a softball league at Davis High School.

GROCERY OUTLET SENDS WATER, SNACKS TO POLICE KIDS ACADEMY
Steve and Debbee Tarr of the new Grocery Outlet store on East Yosemite Avenue were quick to offer water and treats for the Manteca Police Department’s three-week kids’ police academy at the Boys and Girls Club.

Tarr’s 10-year-old son Jake is also involved in the student-geared academy.  He was part of an active felony car stop.  Both Jake and his 14-year-old brother Joey work with their parents in the grocery store.

Saturday is going to be a big day for Manteca shoppers at the new outlet market.  At 8 a.m. the public will be hosted to complimentary coffee and treats.  From 11 until 2 a hot dog and a soda will be offered for just $1.  And at 10 a.m. until noon and 3 until 5 p.m. everyone can have a free spin and win on the wheel of bargains at the store.

Hanna Banana the Clown is going to be at the store from 10 a.m. until noon with free face painting and balloon animals.

J & J PRINTING DOING COSTCO COUPON GIVE-AWAY BOOK PRINTING
Costco wanted to give back to the community and “we’re doing the coupon book and we are doing 15,000 books”, said Shawn Nussbaumer of J&J Printing.  Costco will be giving the books to all their customers who come into the Manteca warehouse.

They wanted the printing to come from printers at the local community.
