The occasional rainstorms and unpredictable weather are just part of the package of being a South County resident as spring quickly approaches.

For John Golding at G&L Irrigation in Manteca, it marks the start of the busiest time of the fiscal year – when residents finally roll out their lawnmowers and prepare to spruce up their yards in anticipation for the long, hot summer that is just around the corner.
And it couldn’t come at a better time for the new Manteca business that is holding its official grand opening on Wednesday, March 24.

“We’re getting ready for the rush that comes during our busiest time of the year,” said Golding – the manager at the new location. “That’s when people start coming out and getting things ready for those long summer days.”

Located on E. Yosemite Avenue near Vasconcellos Road, G&L Irrigation is hoping to capitalize on the combination of Manteca’s family appeal and agricultural roots – offering everything from standard home beautification necessities to agricultural-grade piping needed for large-scale irrigation.

The Manteca site – which opened in August – joins both Tracy and Madera on the list of cities in Northern and Central California that will be served by G&L Irrigation. Golding says the owner has an aggressive business model to expand to 10 locations within the next two years.

In the day and age when just about everyone turns to a big-box retailer for their home improvement purchases, Golding said that his location will offer not only the inventory that people are looking for but also the knowledge that will make undertaking a new project much easier.

“We carry a full line of supplies for both homeowners and farmers who need equipment, and anything that somebody needs that we don’t immediately have I can order,” said Golding. “Personally I have more than 20 years of experience in this field, and that’s knowledge that I can pass on to customers.”

In addition to irrigation supplies, G&L also carries a wide selection of rock and bark, pavers and outdoor lighting. The business will soon add Kioti Tractors to its inventory.

The grand opening will kick-off with an 8 a.m. Chamber of Commerce coffee (G&L Irrigation has been a member since November of last year) and as many as two-dozen vendors will start setting up tables at 9 a.m – immediately following the ribbon cutting. A fully catered lunch for up to 150 people will be offered free of charge, and will begin at noon. The entire event is scheduled to wrap up at 2 p.m.

G&L Irrigation is located at 1990 E. Yosemite Avenue. The business is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 825-5959.
