It’s been more than two decades since Rudy and Sally Delgado opened up their East Yosemite restaurant uniquely named after their infant daughter.

Through sheer hard work and dedication, the couple and their staff have made Taqueria Yvette a staple of the Manteca culinary landscape –a place where it’s not uncommon for Rudy to know his customers by their first name as he works on mastering the names of the second and third generation customers.

“It’s really the customers that have made this business what it is, and it’s what I love about what I do,” Delgado said. “The people of Manteca have been so good to us over the years, and we’re more than thankful for their continued support.”

Residents of Manteca voted Delgado’s Taqueria Yvette the Best Mexican Restaurant and the best place in town to grab a taco during the Convention and Visitors Bureau’s annual Best of Manteca Awards – via on-line voting. Honorees will receive their awards at a Friday, May 15, ceremony and reception at Manteca Trailer and Camper.

While awards aren’t what the Delgado’s have built their business on, the recognition of their customers that went out of their way to vote for their favorite Mexican eatery is fitting for the restaurant that prides itself on making everyone feel like family.

“When you walk in we want you to feel like you belong – like this is a place that you can come and have a family dinner just like you would at home,” Sally Delgado said. “Our staff tries really hard to make that the atmosphere you find.”

And while it won’t be the first time that the Delgado’s have been honored for their longtime restaurant at the Best of Manteca awards, the fact that they’re still around and prospering after 23 years is enough to made Rudy Delgado beam from ear-to-ear.

While both he and Sally were commuting to the Bay Area to work in the restaurant business, finding a place closer to home where rent was cheaper and the drive wasn’t an issue seemed more and more like the right idea.

Things weren’t easy at first.

“Without her I couldn’t have made it,” Rudy said of Sally who was still commuting to the Bay Area. “I  needed her help here, and every since then we’ve been building this family restaurant where we’ve been lucky enough to be a favorite of families.

“So our family and our staff really want to thank the community for supporting us for as long as they have – we never thought in a million years that we’d still be here today.”

Taqueria Yvette is located at 947 E. Yosemite Avenue, and is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. They are closed Sunday.
